Take provinces until you get the announcement that your new military units start with a medal. If the knights take damage, let them recover for one or two turns before tackling a new province. Three knights can handle most of what you're likely to find (usually a few bowmen, clubmen, and spearmen). Have one carrack establish a beachhead on the province you want to invade. Unlike in the old world, new world provinces don't have forts and can be invaded without having to declare war first. Certain resources are unavailable in the old world, and others may be scarce. It's important to secure some territory in the new world. I haven't tired the original so can't help there

The official strategy guide is OK, and its suggestions allow you to enjoy the game's diverse features, but I want to share with you a much more effective method of winning games. Imperialism II is a turn-based strategy game. The game however focuses on the economic aspect with concepts of variable worker productivity, variable terrain productivity, labor allocation, resource allocation and logistics. Imperialism II is a turn based 4X game, where you have to "eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, and eXterminate" in order to achieve victory. Cash is needed for research, military funding, and trade. Trained workers require sugar, cigars, or hats, depending on their level of training. Level 1 and 2 forts require bronze, level 3 requires steel. Bronze is needed for most military units until steel is researched. Iron is used for building roads and ports. Paper is used for worker training and civilian units. Among the manufactured materials, lumber is used for building roads, ports, ships, and forts.
